The daffodils are coming into flower, the days are lengthening and before long the clocks will be going forward, surely Spring has sprung!
Although the keen skippers and crew amongst you may take part in a frostbite or perisher sailing series during the winter, for many this is a time of rest for themselves and the boat. It is likely that the boat will have spent some time out of the water, so it can be cleaned and antifouled below the waterline, sails will have been removed and serviced, with general care and maintenance being carried out to make sure you are ready for the new season.
The new season is rapidly approaching; it certainly is a hive of activity for racing yachts near our headquarters in Hamble. In just over a weeks’ time on Sunday 18th March, nearly 200 racing yachts will take to the waters in the Solent for the opening race of the 2012 Warsash Spring Series. We look forward to joining our customers out on the water as the weather warms up.
Over the last few months the design team at Ultimate Sails have been busy and in particular working on new sail development programmes for the recently launched Bavaria 40 Sport, the Dehler 32 and further tweaks to the successful J111 sails from the 2011 season.
The Bavaria 40 Sport has a racing profile when compared to standard Bavaria range. Designed for performance, yet with no compromise on comfort and manageable sailing the yachts are equipped with performance cruiser racing sails, which are currently undergoing trails on the Solent.
The new Dehler 32, is a fantastic small manageable racing yacht, with potential of capturing the imagination of Sigma 33 owners. Ideal for round the cans racing the new Dehler 32 will be out on the waters in the Solent using a full suit on sails custom designed by Ultimate Sails.
Building on the success of Ultimate Sails in the J111 class last year, we have been working on the designs and look forward to seeing another boat on the water with Ultimate Sails. In 2011 Smokin Joe and True Love were out on the water using a full inventory from Ultimate Sails. Between them, they were victorious in IRC 1 and finished 6th overall during Round the Island Race, as well as winning IRC at the J Cup and IRC 2 during Cowes week. Holding off stiff competition it was clear the strength of the winning combination of J111’s and Ultimate Sail design.
We look forward to getting out on the water and bring you some updated pictures and reports on how they progress.
